Michael Beckett BA(Hons) DipIoD lives in England. Before University he worked as a volunteer on an agricultural project to educate urban children on some basic rural issues. He is a keen proponent of electoral reform, being a Charter 88 signatory. As a passionate advocate for Credit Unions, serving as President of a local Credit Union expanding it to cover the whole of North Yorkshire, to become the largest geographical Credit Union in the Country. Access to affordable finance stimulates local economies and helps enable people to take more control over their lives.
Mike has studied Local Government and Local Economics at the University of London. Since marrying and completing formal studies, Michael has worked in the NHS; the social care sector; in housing; in advice; in mental health; in youth work, and the regeneration of inner city communities. More recently as a Manager of a Citizens Advice Bureau before being the Executive Director in charge of a Mind charity.
In his ‘spare’ time Michael works in the voluntary and community sectors. He worked for many years, until summer 2011, as a school governor he supported the staff’s effort to enhance children’s education. From 2006 to 2015 he served as a Malton Town Councillor for three terms. Mike is also a Trustee of several charities and serves as a Non Executive Director on several Boards. Michael has studied governance with the Institute of Directors as he takes good governance seriously. He is also a governor of a teaching hospital NHS foundation Trust.
Michael campaigns to make a practical difference for good putting people before politics. He is likeable on facebook and followable on twitter and happy to be circled on Googleplus. He likes dancing, 1980s music and alternative music.
